A lot of discussion happens in the summertime regarding humidity, “Oh it was so hot and the humidity was like 1000%!” It’s true that you can feel humidity and it’s effect when it’s hot. It can make it unbearable for some people. But what happens when it isn’t so hot outside? Say, if it’s around 70*?

Yep, even at 70* it can be really uncomfortable. Here’s a current breakdown outside (yes, I just was out there walking back from lunch). Humidity doesn’t seem to impressive at 68%. But with a dewpoint at basically 60* (the temperature where if the air cooled enough, you’d have moisture in the form of fog) it’s kinda humid. In fact, it makes it feel 4* warmer than it actually is.
Yeah, I know… we’re wusses here on the west coast. But hey, at least WE don’t have to live like this ALL summer like you easterners. LOL
Ouch… You are so right about the humidity making it more uncomfortable. We have been spoiled for sure with living west of the Rocky Mountains and having low humidity. We are so spoiled that even with a low humidity reading of 35%, we complain about how uncomfortable it is. Having lived on the east coast and experiencing the difference between here and there I can truthfully sat that the humidity during the summer was almost always as close to the temperature reading. Now, that was uncomfortable and I don’t miss it at all.

Posted by spinjunkey | August 20, 2009, 8:09 amI actually believe that I’m more sensitive to humidity in Oregon than back east. Probably because on the east coast it was always humid and you get used to it, even the terrible summers in Virginia.
